I am in the process of packing for Belize, but since I haven’t checked in all week, I wanted to do another contest.
I’ve been noticing that a strong brow is making a huge comeback these days. It’s all over the runways for fashion week in NYC and Paris and lots of my favorite actresses and musicians have been rocking this look, and a great way to achieve it is by using a brow gel!
Send me an email with a paragraph about who your favorite female with a strong brow is an attach a picture. Personally, I love Aggy D but there are lots of examples of fierce women with this look.
Send your entries to MarakeleMinerals@gmail.com
Open to US residents only, no purchase necessary, must be 18 to enter.

This photograph reminded me that I have to tell you all about my end of the summer beach excursion with Masha and Helena.
While I love going to the beaches here in Miami just to kick it, this trip was special because we decided to help do a beach clean for the animals that live there. Basically we were just picking up things that other humans left behind, but it’s important to take time out to do this because while it may be nothing to leave a soda can behind after your day in the sun, that’s a home for birds, fish and sea mammals, not to mention all the plants and coral. I try and take time to do this every couple of months and always pick up any random trash I see on the shoreline. It’s frustrating that people can be so careless when it comes to our natural resources, but the feeling that I get from doing my part to reverse the effects is priceless. Here’s a challenge: Next time you go to the beach, a park, a forest or any other place that animals share with us humans, bring a plastic grocery bag in your purse and pick up whatever trash you see as you make your way. It’s pretty effortless and if you’re already there to enjoy the view, you might as well give yourself a little extra something to do that also happens to benefit the earth.
After our beach trip, we went to a cafe to plan our next adventure. We drank cappuccinos and searched online for a place to stay in Belize. Yup, I’m finally making that trip to help out that man I met at the manatee benefit a couple months ago. Not only will this give me a chance to interact with some of my favorite animals, but I get to spend a little quality time with this like-minded cutie. Hopefully after our days at the manatee reserve, he’ll be able to take me out for nights on the town in the city. I’ve been to Belize before on vacations and the night life there is crazy, so hopefully I’ll find a happy medium between work and play. Masha and Helena are both taking time off work to come and help out, too. I’m thinking that I won’t have a problem getting time off from the magazine, especially if I pitch it as an opportunity to do a story on the work they are doing at this reserve. I’m always thinkin’.

Here is another entry from my BFF contest. Sara didn’t win, but she and her girlfriend Laura’s story is exceptional so I sent her a lip gloss anyway!
saraliz:

this is a picture of me and my best friend laura sporting our bff rings with PRIDE.
it’s really impossible to write out all the reasons why she’s the best. it would be a ridiculously long list. but at the top would be this girl’s natural ability to instantly make me feel better. she gives the best roomie hugs. she hugs with her entire being and won’t let go until you know how much she loves you. she has an adorable sweet voice and beautiful blue eyes. she’s fuckin hilarious. i’m guilty of peeing from laughing at least a dozen times because of her. i’m a stronger person with a thicker skin because of her. she has no problem telling me to stop being such a baby. she lets me know almost daily that i have a penis for a face.
writing this is hard because i moved 2000 miles away six months ago and miss her an obscene amount. we’ve got a crazy strong friendship though that has already seen crazy highs and crazy lows. i love her so many much bunches. she’ll always be my roomie.
written for this marakele minerals contest to win some bangin lip gloss. but really it gave me an excuse to write about how rad roomie is.

Here is the winner of our MintGloss Give Away, Emily Arnold! Here is the esasy she wrote about her and her bestie!

I am one of those incredibly privileged people who has had the same best friend since we were born. We are six months and two days apart. She’s older (only in age). There are pictures of us in the tub together and toddling around to prom pictures and ridiculous drunk pictures. Her name is Lara Hintenlang. I am Emily Arnold. Looking at us now, we couldn’t be more different. She is passionate about her horses and fashion and is almost six feet tall and is thin as a stick. I’ve got my nose in books and spend my free time studying the human brain. Not to mention I look like a hobbit when we stand next to each other. Our differences are not what matters, only what makes us a comical best friend team. Being friends for so long, it takes no more than a look or a certain tone of voice for us to know something is wrong, or something is wonderful. We have experienced everything together. Loss, love, trauma, heartbreak, elation, utter despair. You name it and we’ve probably felt it. These days, as we grow older and are in two different places most of the time, I’m in the big apple while she is back home in Pennsylvania; we still manage to grow closer. Our friendship is so easy, it is almost laughable. When we are together, after catching up of course, our main activity is sitting next to each other on the couch and watching horrid televsion shows. Inevitably we end up leaning on each other and just quietly enjoying each other’s company. From the sound of it, we could be an old married couple. We might as well be, because if I am certain of anything in this world, it is that Lara and I will be together, from cradle to grave.

And don’t worry, Emily’s not the only winner! We’ll aslo be publishing the essays of our runners up, who will each be receiving a sample size of our delicious MintGloss!

Mara

As you’ve probably noticed by now on my blog, my best friends Masha and Helena are the most important parts of my lives. We do everything together, they are always there for me in a bind and I know they would say the very same about me.
I know that I am not the only woman who feels this way. In fact, girlfriends are one of the best parts about being a woman. There is a strong kinship there that’s undeniable.
Normally I’m asking my readers for help or telling them about me and my girls, but this week, I want to know about you and yours. Share a paragraph with me about you and your best friend and how you spend your time together. I want to know how you became friends, why you stayed friends and what you think it is that keeps the two of you together through thick and thin. I’ll publish the best essay that comes my way and send the winner and her best friend each a Marakele Minerals™ MintGloss. And don’t forget to include a photo of you and your bestie with your entry!
Send your essay and photo to: marakeleminerals@gmail.com
Entries will be accepted until September 12th. Must be a US resident and over 18 to apply. No purchase necessary.
